For us under 2s, we follow the natural rhythms of the day and the needs of each child, offering a warm, nurturing environment filled with sensory exploration, gentle routines and plenty of outside play and learning!
We are open 8:00-5:00 with an additional half an hour of extended care until 5:30 for families who need that little bit of extra time.
Our bespoke agricultural curriculum is woven in throughout the day, giving children hands on learning experiences with farm animals, planting and harvesting food, and learning about our seasons, weather and where our food comes from.
It’s a joyful, muddy and exciting day at Durley House Nursery and Learning!
Children are welcomed with a friendly face, cuddles and a safe and stimulating environment. We ask that parents bring their child’s breakfast with them when they arrive in the morning and this will be served in a cosy, homely setting, with familiar adults supporting feeding routines and encouraging independence. This is a gentle time for starting the day, sharing smiles and preparing for all the fun and excitement the day will bring.
Through gestures, sounds and body language, children will begin to express what they’re curious about. Practitioners will tune into your child’s interests and plan playful and purposeful learning opportunities. Children will be immersed in sensory rich agricultural activities. During these moments, your child will build confidence, coordination and begin to make a connection with the natural world around us, both inside and outside.
A healthy snack is offered to refuel little bodies and children are supported to feed themselves, explore new textures and enjoy the social opportunities of eating together. Children will be having delicious nutritious snacks grown straight from our allotments that they will have helped plant and look after.
Back to more exploring after a yummy snack, both inside and outside the children might be making muddy marks, dancing to farm songs or investigating natural resources. Adults will respond to cues, supporting movement, communication and emotional expression.
Lunchtime! Lunchtime is a chance to share stories of the morning, enjoy nourishing food, and build relationships with other children and practitioners. Children are encouraged to feed themselves with support and routines like handwashing are reinforced and modelled.
Some children may need a sleep during the day in our lovely snuggle spaces, whilst others engage in calm, low energy play. We follow each child’s rhythm, offering comfort, cuddles and reassurance as needed. During this time, the children will get to visit our sensory room or have a small swim in our hydro pool with qualified teachers.
Once the children have had their well needed naps, children will head out to explore again – perhaps helping to harvest some yummy vegetables or playing with water and soil. These experiences support physical development and a growing understanding of the world around them.
A light tea is served for all the children, followed by some quiet time to reflect on the day. Children will share discoveries with their parents through gestures, sounds and play, supported by the practitioners who will celebrate all your child’s achievements with you.
For families arriving later, we offer a calm, comforting end to your child’s day. Children enjoy cuddles, stories and a gentle play as they wind down and prepare for home time.
